Salem Common Neighborhood Association 

Board Meeting

Board Members

Questions with Ty:

  • WSN: rock through window, city pointed to landscaper, landscaper was not receptive 
  • Question on moving Oct resident parking move up to sept. Council is aware; churches currently are bottleneck
  • Fence: advocate for alternative materials such as cast aluminum

Old Business:

  • Updates from meeting with Trish O’Brien
    • Who do we call on weekend – SPD, unless October – Jeremy Fiske
    • Organizer Name/Contact for approved events to be given to SPD
    • Organizers should have permit in hand during events
    • Cars need to be permitted in approval
    • Any problems need to be sent to Trish immediately for follow up next business day
  • Vintage Lawn Party-What went great, where can we improve?
    • Great day, good turnout
    • Need more volunteers
    • Look for solutions on dance floor storage, perhaps O’Donnell? Maybe sell floor to CC

7:45 Susie Moulton Presentation-Friends of Salem Common Updates

  • RPF with Halverson on solutions for WSW side
  • Susie reviewed the state monies that the FOSC have obtained for the city to maintain and improve the Salem Common since 2020, since existing city monies are limited

Board/Chair Reports 

Common Issues: Jennifer and Jenn 

  • Common Issues Updates
    • Potholes filled on WSE, gravel on common paths
    • See Click Fix Updates
    • Aggregate Industries has closed, no leads on new dust path, been 1.5 years?
    • Couple spots on playground where flooring is torn

SCNA Events: Milo (Acting Lead)

  • Yard Sale September 28th – 11 vendors, board does not have a lot of involvement? Promote the org. 10-3, setup at 9. Gabe to staff SCNA event
  • October Fun Fest – Jane to Call montserrat for face painter – sell candy and water, milo will look for kids activities
  • Holiday Decorating – 12/1 Need to discuss order with Corliss for tree (reach out to Tony O’Donnell for funding request?) No wreath for arch this year.
  • Holiday Concert (December 15th) – Bridge is on Board, Band is prepping.
  • 12/31 New Years Toast, 4:30PM

Treasury Report: Jane

  • Current Account Status
    • Upcoming Expenses: Christmas Concert, Holiday Decor, Fall Plantings

Membership Report: 

  • Should we plan for an off season membership drive when events aren’t taking precedence?
    • If in winter, mailer
  • Maybe a christmas/holiday party?

Other Board Member updates

  • Jen H: October Newsletter to promote Fun Fest, Holiday Decorating, Concert

New Business: Micah

  • Planning for Yard Sale-Volunteers Needed-need to send out email to vendors with setup details.
  • Vietnam War Memorial-Need to find a lead (Beverly 400 planner spoke at PEM event about working with Salem to coordinate bringing them here)

  • Bandstand will be part of Phase 2 City initiative, flower beds and electric. Stakeholder meeting being planned.
