SCNA August 2023 Board Meeting Recap: 8/8/23

HSI’s Micah Hapworth Joined BM: SCNA agreed to support Christmas In Salem via ads & volunteers for house tours. Also honored to have Washington Arch nominated for HSI’s 2023 restoration awards.

President/VP Report: Dennis/Gabe

  • SAFE CBA Offshore Wind Facility: Noise, lights, & heights concerns raised
  • Upgrades & Traffic Calming:
    • New requests for raised signage at WSN & speed bumps at WSE – Open
    • Paving around Common on Washington Square needed – Open
  • Website Updates: Milo to lead group discussion on changes.
  • NIAC: New Chief of Staff resuming meetings – will restart in Sept
  • Raised Beds On Common: HSC hearing on 8/16 at 6 PM. SCNA supports joint Girl Scouts/Maitland Farms venture sponsored by Councilor Varela.

  • Current Funds $30,220 Checking ($14,948), Reserve ($7,022), Arch ($8,250)
  • Anticipated Expenses $4,800: Membership Mailer ($1K), Website On Hold ($950), Lawn Party ($2.1K); Holiday Concert ($750)

  • Last year: 64/Members 95: (33) Family, (23) Individual, (8) Business
  • New year: 51/Members 69: (18) Family, (26) Individual, (7) Business
  • Membership Lead Needed: New lead needed

Newsletter: Jen

  • Next NL: Request new leaders for events & membership as well as producing updated event schedule. Also look back at SCNA history.

Events: Acting Lead Milo & Group

  • Movies: 7/26; 8/2; 8/9; & 8/16 – thanks all!
  • HSI Walking Tour: Well received & attended
  • Yard Sale: Happening on August 26 & 27
  • Lawn Party: Awaiting on final approvals for Sept 16th
  • Kids Fun Fest: Awaiting City approvals for Oct 21/22 & 28/29
  • Common tree/wreath decorating in November Holiday Event
  • Holiday Event: Working with HSI on new event in December
  • Holiday Concert: Planned for Bridge@211 in December
  • Continuing to look for new event lead

Washington Arch: Gabe

  • Positive ongoing feedback from community & visitors
  • Awaiting bid from Reliable Lighting on Arch lighting
  • Arch Restoration nominated for HSI award
  • Wreath approved to add to Arch for holiday season

Common & Neighborhood Issues & Enhancements: Jenn

  • Bandstand: Phase 2 (restore dome; add flowerbeds) exploring w/Mike C
  • Immediate issue: Seepage from sprinklers to basement
  • Glass scattered behind bulkhead door
  • Fence: Working with Patti K & Mike C on needed near/long term solutions
  • Lights: Mike C on options for Hubie & Hawthorne lights
  • Immediate issue – Hubie lights were down but are now up
  • Noise: Volume of speakers at recent non-SCNA events issue – SPD referral
  • Future: Explore possible adult recreational/fitness installation on Common
