SCNA July 2023 Board Meeting Recap: 7/11/23

Guests: Councilor Andy Verela, Girl Scout Leadership: Maitland Farms/Girl Scouts Proposed Common Garden Project

  • Board voted to support this worthwhile effort & help with fundraising
  • Recommended Signature Parks be involved as well

President/VP Report: Dennis/Gabe

  • SAFE CBA: SCNA supports SAFE’s community efforts regarding the new Wind Facility. In addition, we filed comments with MA EIR on the facility.
  • Upgrades & Traffic Calming:
    • Paving around Common on WS needed
    • Redeploy speed cushions (Mall & Oliver)
    • New requests for raised signage at Playground & speed bumps at WSE
  • Website Updates: Milo to lead group to discuss possible front-end changes
  • NIAC: Resumed in July under CoS Lisa Peterson. Gabe distributed updates.

  • Current Funds $30,194: Checking ($14,924), Reserve ($7,022), Arch ($8,248)
  • Donations: $100 from 4 th of July event
  • Incurred Expenses $661: SAFE meeting $116, Coffee Time $110, Minit Print Flyers $75, Beautification Plants $360
  • Anticipated Expenses $4,400: Membership Mailer ($1K), Website On Hold ($950), Lawn Party ($1.7K); Holiday Concert ($750)

Membership Report: Jane Acting Lead (Data As of 7/11/23)

  • Last year: 64/Members 95: (33) Family, (23) Individual, (8) Business
  • New year: 50/Members 68: (18) Family, (25) Individual, (7) Business
  • Membership Lead Needed: Continuing to look for new membership lead

Newsletter: Jen

  • Next NL: Request new leaders for events & membership as well as producing updated event schedule. Also look back at SCNA history.

Events: Acting Lead Milo & Group

  • 4 th of July: Great success – Mayor, SHS & Milo spoke
  • August Movies at 8 PM: July 26 th ; Aug 2 nd ; Aug 9 th ; Aug 16 th
  • HSI Event: Common Walking Tour. Aug 13 th 10 to 11:30
  • Yard Sale: Decision needed on whether to have. Sept 9 th or 10th
  • Lawn Party: Board approved & contracts signed. Sept 16 th
  • Kids Fun Fest: Park & Rec approved on 7/18. Sept 21/22 & 28/29
  • Decorating: Common tree/wreath decorating in November
  • Holiday Event: Working with HSI on new event in December
  • Holiday Concert: Planned for Bridge@211 in December
  • Continuing to look for new event lead

Washington Arch: Gabe

  • Great ongoing feedback from community & visitors
  • Working with PEM on Skylight Studios’ artifacts storage
  • Exploring lighting options to illuminate Arch
  • Looking into holiday wreath for Arch

Common & Neighborhood Enhancements: Jenn

  • Immediate issues: Graffiti on playground & water leakage under bandstand – Jenn has brought up both with DPS
  • Little Library: Positive feedback & usage from community & visitors
  • Lawn: Great on-going work by DPS – Lawn looks great
  • Trees: Our thanks to Signature Parks & all involved in new plantings
  • Bandstand: Phase 2 (restore dome; add flowerbeds) exploring w/Mike C
  • Fence: Working with Patti K & Mike C on needed near/long term solutions
  • Lights: Checking with Mike C on options for Hubie & Hawthorne lights
  • Future: Explore possible adult recreational/fitness installation on Common
  • Future: Explore gardens on Common
